Onmyoudou magic was once a powerful technique used by the Japanese during World War II to allow them to gain the upper hand and establish their nation as a formidable force. But Japan was quickly defeated after the revered onmyouji Yakou Tsuchimikado caused the “Great Spiritual Disaster”, an event that plagues Tokyo to this day. As a result of this accident, the Onmyou Agency was created in order to exorcise other spiritual disasters and fight the demons that would make their way into the world.

Today, Onmyoudou has become much more modern, simplified and refined for use in a wide variety of applications such as medicine and technology. However, not everyone is capable of using magic, as is the case with Tsuchimikado branch family member Harutora. Despite an old promise to protect Natsume, the heir to the main Tsuchimikado family and the supposed reincarnation of Yakou, as his familiar, Harutora has no talents and chooses to live a normal life instead. But when a prominent member of the Onmyou Agency tries to recreate the same experience that led to the fall of Japan, he decides to keep his word and fight alongside Natsume.
