High school student Makoto Itou notices Kotonoha Katsura for the first time at the start of his second semester of freshman year. Immediately, he becomes fascinated by her beauty, but his modesty does not allow him to approach her, even though they take the same train every day. Instead, he secretly takes a picture of her and sets it as his cell phone wallpaper: a charm that, if kept secret, would supposedly help you realize your love.
However, his classmate Sekai Saionji spots the photo, but instead of reporting him, she offers to help him settle down with Kotonoha, going so far as to befriend her just for him. Thus, the trio begins a rather impromptu friendship. School Days follows the lives of these three teenagers as they navigate the joys and hardships that come with being a high school student.
