Tatsuhiro Satou, 22, a college dropout, has been hikikomori for nearly four years now. In his isolation, he has come to believe in many obscure conspiracy theories, but there is one in particular in which he has unwavering faith: the theory that the evil conspirator behind his NEET (Not Employed, in education or training) is the Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai (NHK) – an evil, secretive organization dedicated to furthering the spread of hikikomori culture.
NHK or Youkoso! is a psychological comedy-drama that follows Tatsuhiro as he struggles to escape the evil machinations of NHK and the disease of isolation he has wrought, while struggling to even leave his apartment and find a job. His unexpected encounter with the mysterious Misaki Nakahara could signal a reversal of fortune for Tatsuhiro, but with this encounter comes the inevitable cost of having to face his greatest fear: society.
