Having achieved professional status in college, Rei Kiriyama is one of the few elites in the world of shogi. Because of this, he faces tremendous pressure, both from the shogi community and his adoptive family. Seeking to free himself from his tense family life, he settles in an apartment in Tokyo. As a 17-year-old living alone, Rei tends not to take care of himself, and his reclusive personality excludes him from his peers at school and the shogi hall.
However, shortly after arriving in Tokyo, Rei meets Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto, a trio of sisters living with their grandfather who owns a traditional wagashi shop. Akari, the eldest of three daughters, is determined to fight Rei’s loneliness and unsupported lifestyle with motherly hospitality. The Kawamoto sisters, dealing with past tragedies, also share with Rei a unique family bond that she has lacked for most of her life. As he struggles to sustain himself physically and mentally throughout his shogi career, Rei must learn to interact with others and understand his own complex emotions. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
