Chihayafuru
Chihaya Ayase, a willful girl and tomboy, grows up in the shadow of her older sister. Having no dreams of her own, she is content with her share of life until she meets Arata Wataya. The silent transfer student from her elementary class introduces her to competitive karuta, a physically and mentally demanding card game inspired by the classic Japanese anthology of the Hundred Poets. Captivated by Arata’s passion for the game and inspired by the possibility of becoming the best in Japan, Chihaya quickly falls in love with the world of karuta.
Along with the prodigy Arata and his haughty but hardworking friend Taichi Mashima, she joined the local society Shiranami. The trio spent their idyllic childhood playing together, until circumstances separated them. Now in high school, Chihaya has become a karuta maniac. She aims to establish the municipal Mizusawa High Competitive Karuta Club, aiming for the national championship at Omi Jingu. Reunited with the now indifferent Taichi, Chihaya’s dream of starting a karuta team is only one step away from becoming a reality: she must bring together members who are passionate about the game to match her own.
