Man and demon are two sides of the same coin, as are Asia and Gehenna, their respective worlds. The only way to travel between realms is through possession, as in ghost stories. However, Gehenna’s ruler, Satan, cannot find a suitable host to take over and is, therefore, imprisoned in his own world.
In a desperate attempt to conquer Asiya, he instead sends his son, intended to eventually develop into a vessel capable of being captured by the demon king. Ao no Exorcist follows Rin Okumura who appears to be a normal, somewhat troubled teenager—until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world is turned upside down when he learns that he is actually the son of Satan and that his demon father wants him to return so they can conquer Asiya together. Not wanting to join Gehenna’s King, Rin decides to start training to become an exorcist so he can fight alongside his brother Yukio to protect Asiya. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
